The song, The Hopes Placed in our Hands, has lyrics written by eight Primary 7 pupils – Anna Boyd, Cameron Currie, Georgia Currie, Olivia Devlin, Alex Harraghy, Cailin Hart, Callum Robertson, and Louise Sandland, which were put to music by Assistant Director of Music, Steven Griffin. The première performance by the whole of Primary 7 took place at their VE Day Celebration in November. Given that the majority of the audience had lived through World War II, this was a very moving experience for all there.
The song was recorded in our Music Auditorium and features every pupil in Primary 7. The message it contains is powerful, and indicates a mature understanding of war, its impact, and the failure of successive generations to eradicate it. Children read excerpts from their War Diaries at VE Day celebrations and these have been included on the CD as bonus tracks.
The 7 pupils are good song-writer. I am thouched by this song. No matter what the people fought for? The war is very cruel for people. Fortunately I was born in a peace land. I also hope no more war in the world.
7 pupils wrote the song, The Hopes Placed in our Hands. They wrote it when they were studying about World War II. The George Watson's College supported the charity related to World War II. This year, the college support Erskine. Erskine is a charity that provides care, accommodation, and supports employment for ex-service people of all generations. It provides physical and language therapy, medical care, and rehabilitation. There is a VE Day celebration. The students focus their art, music, and drama during the 1940s. They even have a party. They then invite their grandparents and other people from the older generation to join them. This time, there is a little difference. Students compose lyrics to their teachers. They are going to perform it. They also made a CD to raise money for Erskine. I think that it is a nice thing. The students are really caring. The song is good, too. I think that the hopes placed in our hands is the ability we have to change someone else's life, by just helping them or simply donate money to them. We can buy the copies of the CD, too. The profits will go to Erskine.
